What the NPK Numbers on a Fertilizer Bag Mean

The three numbers on a fertilizer bag are the NPK grade: the percentage by weight of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) inside. A 15-15-15 bag is 15% of each. The numbers tell you exactly what you are buying, if the manufacturer’s numbers are honest.

What each nutrient does

  • Nitrogen (N): drives leaf growth and keeps the canopy green. The first number.
  • Phosphorus (P): drives root development and early establishment. The second number.
  • Potassium (K): builds stress tolerance, stem strength, and fruit quality. The third number.

How to read a bag

A bag marked 12:12:17 contains 12% nitrogen, 12% phosphorus, and 17% potassium. Straight fertilizers carry one dominant nutrient (urea is 46% N; muriate of potash is 60% K). Blends combine nutrients in ratios matched to a crop and stage. The grade decides what job the fertilizer can do, which is why applying the wrong grade wastes money even when the product is good.

Why AgriOne’s numbers hold

The number on the bag is a claim. The Certificate of Analysis is the proof. Every AgriOne batch is tested in our in-house laboratory before release, and the COA for your batch, showing its tested composition, is available with any order at no charge. Ask your dealer or message us on WhatsApp.
